Pension
Washington Health is excited to introduce a new defined benefit pension plan through Transamerica, effective August 1, 2026. This employer-sponsored retirement benefit is designed to provide eligible employees with dependable monthly income in retirement, based on years of service and compensation.
Unlike a retirement savings account, a defined benefit pension plan provides a benefit calculated under the terms of the plan rather than being based solely on individual contributions and investment performance. The pension can work alongside Washington Health’s existing 403(b) and 457(b) retirement savings plans to help support your long-term financial security.

How Does the Pension Plan Work?
The Washington Health Retirement Pension Plan is a defined benefit plan funded primarily by the District. Your pension benefit is based on factors including your years of service and compensation and is generally paid as monthly income in retirement.
Eligible employees become fully vested after five years of vesting service, at age 65, or upon total and permanent disability while employed. Plan participation generally begins on the first day of the month after eligibility requirements are met.
